This time of year always makes me think of London, England. The warmth of the whiskys by a fireplace, specifically in Westminster! I am due back to London for a short visit this week and thought I’d share my favourite places with you that I plan to visit!
Why Westminster London?
Home to some of the best landmarks and tourist hot spots, Westminster, London is the posher side of town. The bars have smooth leather couches and the counter tops are marbled, covered with various small serviettes holding the cocktail of the hour. Not surprising considering most of the businesses and architecture is home to government, royal or aristocratic faces. Often the newer renovations have kept the style in check. This allows for the old style comforts of posh furniture, keeping dark corners in the bars for naughty conversations, but still bringing British culture with British flags displayed, modern art and cultural icons adoring the walls.
On the edge of the Thames waterfront, you can wander through St James Park. Essentially a royal garden it borders many pubs around Big Ben or Buckingham Palace. My favourite is the Tattershall Castle – a floating pub visible by its pretty lights , often covered and atmospheric around this time of year. Right outside Big Ben and having been renovated a few times, it is well worth a visit.
If something fancy is on your mind or you’d like to try some of the priciest cocktails in London city, head to Dukes Bar in St James. I’ve heard their Martini’s (and show stopping performance serving these) is not to be missed. One to take a classy woman on your arm and dress to impress! I am very much looking forward to this part of my trip!
New to the city or even a long time lover, I’d recommend visiting Westminster Abbey. Whether you are religious or not, it is certainly something special with its Gothic Style architecture and long running history. I am always in awe every visit!
Where to Stay:
In Westminster, the Corinthia has the reputation as the go to hotel – and for good reason! If you really want to relax in style this is certainly one to look for, but don’t forget the up and coming Conrad (part of the upscale side of the Hilton collection). Although there isn’t a spa currently, some of the suites are set up for living quarters too with his and hers bathrooms – perfect for a cosy stay with a playmate! If you are looking for something more traditional, you may enjoy St Ermins just in front of the queens park!
Regardless where you decide to stay in London, don’t forget to tell me about it. If you want to share the tourist attractions – send me a message and lets arrange a date. Whether you are there or when you visit Madrid!
